Public Visioning
San Jose, CA

We bring visions of possible futures to public spaces, cultivating greater civic dialogue, debate and deliberation regarding the trajectories we want to take moving forward. Rendered futures inform strategic interventions to translate possible trajectories of change into implementable action.

This intervention was created through community participation in the 2022 Verge Conference and installed in San Jose, California in the fall of 2022. Possible futures were generated through workshops using science fiction to plan for long-term climate change impacts, and rendered in a combination of visuals -- created via collage and text-to-image AI programs -- as well as audio narratives. The work is based off science fiction prototyping, a kind of speculative futures tool for envisioning, evaluating, and creating potential worlds.
